⚠ Before you buy — check compatibility Your motherboard needs an M.2 slot with NVMe (PCIe) support. This drive will not work in an M.2 slot that is SATA-only. Check your motherboard or laptop manual (search your model + "M.2 NVMe"). A PCIe 3.0 slot is fine too — the drive will simply run at PCIe 3.0 speeds.

Windows 11 requirements Your PC must support UEFI with Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, and have a compatible 64-bit CPU (roughly Intel 8th gen / AMD Ryzen 2000 or newer). 2Create the Windows 11 USB Installer

Do this before opening your PC, while everything still works.

  1. On a working PC, go to Microsoft's official download page: microsoft.com/software-download/windows11.
  2. Under Create Windows 11 Installation Media, click Download Now to get the Media Creation Tool.
  3. Plug in your USB drive (8 GB+, will be erased).
  4. Run the tool, accept the license, keep the recommended language and edition, choose USB flash drive, select your USB stick, and let it finish (10–20 minutes depending on your connection).
  5. When it says "Your USB flash drive is ready", close the tool and safely eject the drive.
💡 Tip Always download Windows from Microsoft's official site — it's free, legal, and guaranteed malware-free. You never need a third-party "Windows ISO" site.

3Install the SSD in Your PC

Desktop PC

  1. Shut down the PC completely, switch off the power supply, and unplug the power cable. Press the power button once to drain leftover power.
  2. Touch a metal part of the case (or wear an anti-static strap) to discharge static electricity.
  3. Remove the side panel and locate the M.2 slot — a small horizontal connector on the motherboard, usually between the CPU and the graphics card, sometimes under a metal heatsink cover. Consult your motherboard manual if unsure.
  4. If there's a heatsink cover, unscrew and remove it. Remove the tiny standoff screw at the 80 mm mark.
  5. Hold the SSD by its edges and insert it into the slot at a ~30° angle. The notch in the connector only fits one way — never force it.
  6. Gently press the raised end down flat and secure it with the small screw (snug, not tight).
  7. Reinstall the heatsink cover if there was one, close the case, and plug the power back in.

Laptop

  1. Shut down completely and unplug the charger. If the battery is removable, remove it.
  2. Unscrew and remove the bottom panel (a plastic pry tool helps avoid scratches).
  3. Locate the free M.2 slot (or the existing drive if you're replacing it), insert the SSD at an angle, press down, and screw it in — same as the desktop steps above.
  4. Replace the bottom panel.
⚠ Keeping your old drive? If your old drive stays in the PC alongside the new SSD, your files on it are safe — Windows installation only touches the drive you select. But to avoid any mistake, note the old drive's size now (e.g. "the 500 GB one is my old drive") so you can tell them apart during installation. If you're replacing the only drive, back up your files first!

4Check the BIOS/UEFI Settings

  1. Plug in the Windows USB stick, power on the PC, and immediately tap the BIOS key repeatedly — usually Del or F2 (sometimes F10 or Esc, depending on the brand).
  2. Confirm the new 2TB NVMe SSD appears in the storage/NVMe information page. If it doesn't, power off and re-seat the drive.
  3. Make sure UEFI mode is enabled (not Legacy/CSM), and that Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (sometimes called PTT on Intel or fTPM on AMD) are enabled — Windows 11 requires them.
  4. Save and exit (F10 on most systems).
💡 If the installer can't see the SSD later On some recent Intel systems, storage is hidden behind Intel VMD/RST. Either disable VMD in the BIOS, or download the Intel RST driver from your PC maker's website onto the USB stick and use the "Load driver" button during Windows setup.

5Boot From the USB and Format the SSD

  1. Restart the PC and tap the boot menu key — usually F12, F11, or F8. Select your USB drive (pick the entry labeled UEFI).
  2. The Windows Setup screen appears. Choose your language, time format, and keyboard layout → NextInstall now.
  3. If asked for a product key and Windows was previously activated on this PC, click "I don't have a product key" — it will re-activate automatically online later. (Never had a license? You can buy a Windows 11 Home or Pro license from PcHybrid.)
  4. Choose the edition matching your license (Windows 11 Home or Pro), accept the terms, then select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced). This is the option that lets you choose and format the drive.

Formatting: the part everyone worries about (it's easy)

You'll now see the drive selection screen. Here's exactly what to do:

  1. Identify the new SSD — it's the ~2000 GB (1863 GB shown) drive. If it's brand new, it appears as a single line of "Unallocated Space".
  2. Brand-new drive? You don't need to format anything manually. Just click the unallocated space, then Next. Windows creates and formats all partitions for you, automatically and correctly.
  3. Drive was used before? Click each partition on that drive (and only that drive!) and press Delete until only "Unallocated Space" remains, then select it and click Next. Deleting the partitions is the clean format — everything on that drive is erased.
  4. Windows now copies files and installs. The PC will restart several times — this is normal. Remove the USB stick at the first restart so it doesn't boot back into setup.
⚠ Double-check the drive size! Never delete partitions on a drive whose size matches your old drive. The installer identifies drives by number and size only — the size is your safety check.

6First Boot and Setup

  1. Follow the on-screen setup: country, keyboard, Wi-Fi network.
  2. Sign in with (or create) a Microsoft account — this also links your Windows license to your account, which makes future reinstalls painless.
  3. Set a PIN, review the privacy options, and skip the promotional offers if you wish.
  4. Once on the desktop, go to Settings → Windows Update and install all updates, restarting as needed. This automatically pulls in nearly every driver you need (graphics, audio, network, chipset).
  5. For gaming rigs: install the latest GPU driver directly from NVIDIA (GeForce), AMD (Adrenalin), or Intel (Arc) for best performance.
  6. Check activation under Settings → System → Activation — it should read "Active".

  • SSD not visible in Windows Setup: load the Intel RST/VMD driver or disable VMD in BIOS (see Step 4).
  • "This PC can't run Windows 11": enable TPM 2.0 (PTT/fTPM) and Secure Boot in the BIOS.
  • PC boots back into setup after install: remove the USB stick and, in BIOS, put "Windows Boot Manager" first in the boot order.
  • Activation issue: Settings → System → Activation → Troubleshoot, signed in with the Microsoft account that held the license.
