2Create the Windows 11 USB Installer
Do this before opening your PC, while everything still works.
- On a working PC, go to Microsoft's official download page: microsoft.com/software-download/windows11.
- Under Create Windows 11 Installation Media, click Download Now to get the Media Creation Tool.
- Plug in your USB drive (8 GB+, will be erased).
- Run the tool, accept the license, keep the recommended language and edition, choose USB flash drive, select your USB stick, and let it finish (10–20 minutes depending on your connection).

3Install the SSD in Your PC
Desktop PC

- Touch a metal part of the case (or wear an anti-static strap) to discharge static electricity.
- Remove the side panel and locate the M.2 slot — a small horizontal connector on the motherboard, usually between the CPU and the graphics card, sometimes under a metal heatsink cover. Consult your motherboard manual if unsure.
- If there's a heatsink cover, unscrew and remove it. Remove the tiny standoff screw at the 80 mm mark.
- Hold the SSD by its edges and insert it into the slot at a ~30° angle. The notch in the connector only fits one way — never force it.
- Gently press the raised end down flat and secure it with the small screw (snug, not tight).
- Reinstall the heatsink cover if there was one, close the case, and plug the power back in.
Laptop
- Shut down completely and unplug the charger. If the battery is removable, remove it.
- Unscrew and remove the bottom panel (a plastic pry tool helps avoid scratches).
- Locate the free M.2 slot (or the existing drive if you're replacing it), insert the SSD at an angle, press down, and screw it in — same as the desktop steps above.
- Replace the bottom panel.
4Check the BIOS/UEFI Settings
- Plug in the Windows USB stick, power on the PC, and immediately tap the BIOS key repeatedly — usually Del or F2 (sometimes F10 or Esc, depending on the brand).
- Confirm the new 2TB NVMe SSD appears in the storage/NVMe information page. If it doesn't, power off and re-seat the drive.
- Make sure UEFI mode is enabled (not Legacy/CSM), and that Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 (sometimes called PTT on Intel or fTPM on AMD) are enabled — Windows 11 requires them.
- Save and exit (F10 on most systems).
5Boot From the USB and Format the SSD
- Restart the PC and tap the boot menu key — usually F12, F11, or F8. Select your USB drive (pick the entry labeled UEFI).
- The Windows Setup screen appears. Choose your language, time format, and keyboard layout → Next → Install now.

- Choose the edition matching your license (Windows 11 Home or Pro), accept the terms, then select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced). This is the option that lets you choose and format the drive.
Formatting: the part everyone worries about (it's easy)

- Drive was used before? Click each partition on that drive (and only that drive!) and press Delete until only "Unallocated Space" remains, then select it and click Next. Deleting the partitions is the clean format — everything on that drive is erased.
- Windows now copies files and installs. The PC will restart several times — this is normal. Remove the USB stick at the first restart so it doesn't boot back into setup.
6First Boot and Setup
- Follow the on-screen setup: country, keyboard, Wi-Fi network.
- Sign in with (or create) a Microsoft account — this also links your Windows license to your account, which makes future reinstalls painless.
