2Get the SSD

You'll also need a USB stick of 8 GB or more, a small Phillips screwdriver, and about an hour.

3Install the SSD

1. Shut the PC down completely, unplug the power, and press the power button once to drain residual power.
2. Touch bare metal on the case to discharge static.
3. Locate the M.2 slot on the motherboard (desktop: usually near the CPU or under a heatsink cover; laptop: under the bottom panel).
4. Insert the SSD at a ~30° angle — the notch only fits one way — press it flat and secure the small screw.
5. Close everything up and reconnect the power.

4Create the Windows 11 Pro USB Installer

1. On a working PC, download the Media Creation Tool from microsoft.com/software-download/windows11.
2. Run it with your USB stick plugged in (it will be erased), choose USB flash drive, and let it finish.
3. The same installer covers Home and Pro — your Pro product key is what unlocks the Pro edition.

5BIOS Check, Boot and Install

1. Enter the BIOS (Del or F2 at startup): confirm the SSD is detected, UEFI mode is on, and Secure Boot + TPM 2.0 are enabled.
2. Boot from the USB stick via the boot menu (F12/F11), choose the UEFI entry.
3. When asked for a product key, enter your Windows 11 Pro key — this guarantees the Pro edition is installed. (Reinstalling on a PC that already had Pro? Click "I don't have a product key" and pick Windows 11 Pro from the list.)
4. Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced), choose the new 2TB SSD (shown as ~1863 GB of Unallocated Space if brand new), and click Next — Windows partitions and formats it automatically. If the drive was used before, delete its partitions (on that drive only!) first.
5. The PC restarts several times; remove the USB stick at the first restart.

6Switch On the Pro Features

Once you reach the desktop and finish Windows Update, take five minutes to activate what you paid for:

• BitLocker: Settings → Privacy & security → Device encryption (or search "Manage BitLocker") → turn it on for drive C:. Save the recovery key to your Microsoft account.
• Remote Desktop: Settings → System → Remote Desktop → enable, then connect from any device with the Remote Desktop app.
• Hyper-V: search "Turn Windows features on or off" → check Hyper-V → restart. You can now create virtual machines.
• Company network: Settings → Accounts → Access work or school to join a domain or Azure AD if your organization uses one.
